Kathy Estes, Music Director

Violin Teacher & AIMS Class

 

Kathy Estes received her BME from Jacksonville University in Jacksonville Florida after studying at the University of Illinois in Champaign. She has taught public and private students in violin, viola and piano for 35 years and played her violin and viola in several symphonies, quartets, pops orchestras, jazz trio, and Christian rock groups, etc.

Kathy plays locally as a Violist in the Western Piedmont Symphony Orchestra, a Jazz trio, the New Life Worship Team, and directs the Celtic Christmas Concert.

As the Studio3 Music Director, Kathy works with the teaching team in the development of the curriculum, events, and special performances, and oversees the structure of the school.

She is dedicated to the development of each young musician. Kathy says, "Put an instrument in the hands of a child and change a life.''

Andy Wallen

Guitar Teacher

 

Andy Wallen is a wonderful addition to our staff.

Andy was raised in West Virginia and received a BA in Music Education from West Liberty University. He studied classical guitar performance and composition at Shennandoah Conservatory of Music in Winchester, VA. Andy's guitar classes are extremely popular and growing every semester.

Rachel Palmer

Violin Teacher

 

Rachel Palmer exemplifies one of the values we hold at Studio3 which is mentoring young musicians as they become proficient in their instrument.

Rachel Palmer is our first student teacher and studied under Kathy Estes for seven years.

She plays first stand in the Western Piedmont Youth Symphony, the Celtic Christmas Concert and several community performances all year long. Rachel is presently studying under Annie Wolaver Dupre in Franklin, Tennessee.

She is a talented young teacher and we are glad to have her!

Melody M. Beaty

Chorus & Piano Teacher

 

Melody Morrison Beaty earned a BS in Instrumental Music Education and a Masters of Music in voice. In the course of her career, she has sung leading roles with Opera companies from NY to Florida.

Melody has a private studio in Statesville (voice, piano, flute) and conducts five choirs at the First Presbyterian Church.

She has worked extensively with children, understanding the unique needs of their growing voices, training them in technique, artistry, and performance, all with spirited fun!

Jordan Dagenhart

Piano Teacher

 

Jordan Dagenhart brings to Studio3 his own special energy and love for music! Graduating from Alexander County High School with many musical accomplishments, he continued with a degree from West Lenoir Ministries Association, and earned his Bachelors of Music Education from Wingate University. Since that time, Jordan has taught private piano lessons and is the Director of Music at Calvary Baptist Church in Taylorsville. His teaching experience also includes award winning contributions to the North Carolina Christian School Association. He is now teaching in the public school system in North Carolina. We feel very honored to include Jordan on our faculty team.

Sam Childs

Mandolin & Folk Guitar Teacher

 

Sam Childs is an accomplished musician and we are very happy to have him. He plays the guitar, mandolin, violin and banjo!

Sam has a Bachelors degree in education/math and a MDiv. degree. He and his wife have shared music ministries in several churches over the years.

Sam has played in many musical groups and taught stringed instruments for twenty years.

He enjoys seeing others learn and use their musical gifts. Sam says music is a gift from God.

Katelyn Banks

Percussion & Beginning Piano Teacher

 

Katelyn Banks teaches percussion and piano. Studio3 is so glad to have this young accomplished teacher on our faculty.  

After graduating from Alexander Central High School, Katelyn earned her BME at UNC Charlotte.

Since then she has built her own music studio in Bethlehem where she resides with her husband, Billy.

She teaches at the Hickory Music Factory, as well as being the assistant conductor of the Piedmont Percussion Program. Katelyn also enjoys teaching piano.

Sharon Owenby

Cello Teacher

 

We are excited to have our new cello teacher join our staff!
Ms. Sharon Owenby has been a long-time advocate for arts education as well as a music educator. She has been teaching since 2007 and strives to help her students achieve holistic excellence – in music and beyond.

Ms. Sharon was raised in the Washington, DC area and studied cello under David Hardy of the National Symphony Orchestra and later at Shenandoah Conservatory.

Ms. Owenby’s previous students have gone on to win positions in junior and senior regional orchestra festivals, be accepted to the UNC School of the Arts, NC School of Science and Math, Interlochen Center for the Arts, and prestigious universities.
